A: Children attending Camp Excel typically have social skills challenges, are high functioning do not have significant behavioral issues, and would benefit from a very structured and supportive environment. A large number of our campers are diagnosed with ADHD. Others include Aspergers Disorder, Tourettes Disorder, Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder, Anxiety, Depression, Central Auditory Processing Disorder and others with mild learning disabilities. We have found that the program is not appropriate for children with significant cognitive delays, significant oppositonal/ defiant behavior or a history of aggression. All prospective campers are interviewed by the Camp Director to determine if the child will benefit from the Camp Excel program.

A: To apply, parents should first contact the Director, Kathleen Cable by phone
(732-281-0275). From information provided by parents it can be determined if the child might benefit from the program. Next, an appointment will be made with Ms. Cable to meet with the child and the parents. If it is agreed that this is an appropriate placement and that the program will meet the child’s needs, the child will be enrolled. A non-refundable deposit of $600 along with a signed Agreement (from the Enrollment Packet) will hold a place for the child. If your school district or other funding source will be making payment we must have a commitment letter before a place will be held. When the deposit or commitment letter is received, the enrollment packet can be downloaded by clicking here. Note: Enrollment Packet should be completed  ONLY after an interview with the Director and the deposit has been made.

A: Camp Excel is a therapeutic program in nature and it is our experience that many of our campers often need a week or two simply to adjust to the transition. Some children are just beginning to make connections with peers after one or two weeks. They need the additional time to develop those relationships and practice the social skills they have learned at the program. We feel that the full six weeks ensures the optimal benefit from the program and therefore do not offer individual weeks.

A: Transportation is provided from centralized pick-up points. The fee for transportation is included in the tuition. Pick-up points are determined by analyzing where families are coming from and finding a location that is convenient for all. We make every effort to accommodate our families’ transportation needs. Children are transported in 15 passenger vans, 7 passenger vans or automobiles. All drivers have a Commercial Driver's License and undergo fingerprinting and background checks. In addition to the driver, each vehicle has at least one aide. Both drivers and aides are Camp Counselors.

A: The Tuition for the Camp Excel program is $5,000.00 for the six week program. This cost includes transportation from central pick-up points, a weekly Parent
Group with free child care provided during the group for camper and siblings,
Sibling Groups, breakfast, and afternoon snacks and all off-site trips.

A: It has been our experience that health insurance does not cover this tuition. There may be some other limited funding options available depending on the child and the family's particular circumstances. Please call for more information (732-281-0275)

A: Camp Excel provides campers with breakfast and an afternoon snack. Campers can bring lunch (no glass bottles, please). Lunches will not be refrigerated, and microwaves are not available. Campers also have the option to purchase lunch Monday - Thursday (Friday is trip day).

A: Sneakers should be worn everyday. Children should wear or bring a bathing suit everyday, along with a towel, sunscreen and flip flops (optional).
Children are asked to leave a sweatshirt at Camp Excel for use as needed.
All clothing should be clearly marked with child’s name.

A: Camp Excel has a full-time registered nurse on staff. The nurse is available
to administer medications and attend to any other medical needs of the children. Medication must be delivered to camp by the parent/guardian, and must
be in the original prescription container. We also require a doctor's order to
administer medication.

A: Field trips are on Fridays. The cost of these trips is included in the price
of tuition, and campers should not bring money with them. Additional information about each location will be provided prior to each trip.

A: If your child will be celebrating a birthday you are welcome to provide a birthday treat for the child's group.
